About Ipoh

Ipoh is the capital city of the state of Perak and is one of the biggest cities in Malaysia with over 750.000 inhabitants. 70% of Ipoh's population is of Chinese origin.

The city is located at a distance of approximately 200 kilometers to the north of Kuala Lumpur. From the North-South Expressway you can reach Ipoh within 2 hours by car. From Ipoh you can reach the island of Penang in 1,5 hours (150km).

The city used to be the center of the tin industry (in the world); but those days are long gone. Nowadays the city still recovers from the important role it used to play; but it has much to offer to tourists.

Ipoh is surrounded by beautiful limestone outcrops with wonderful cave temples; some of Malaysia's biggest attractions are only a couple of hours away by car. Today's Ipoh is well known for its excellent restaurants, hawkers, and famous local dishes. Because of this you will find famous 'Ipoh cuisine' hawkers at many places throughout Malaysia.

Travel to Ipoh

By plane:
Ipoh is served by the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (IATA: IPH). Firefly and Tigerair operate flights to and from Terminal 2 of Singapore Changi Airport.
Malindo Air and Firefly operate flights to and from the Senai International Airport, Johor Bahru.

City Taxi:
Prepaid taxi is available at Ipoh airport. You can take the prepaid taxi to the city (e.g. to Vloft hostel at Jalan Sultan Iskandar) for MYR 25 (October. 2015).
The prepaid taxi driver may not know the exact location of the place you want to go in the city, so it’s best to copy the full address of the hostel when you hire the prepaid taxi at Ipoh airport. While returning from city to airport, you can find taxi virtually at any bus stop in the city and it would cost you to the airport for MYR 20, or less, if you bargain.
Uber or Grab is available in Ipoh, with a localized option to pay with either cash or credit card.

By train:
Trains head as far north as Padang Besar and as far south as Johor Bahru.
Kuala Lumpur is predictably well served by several trains per day. New electric trains to KL (2 hours) cost either RM25 or RM35 depending on the time of day. https://intranet.ktmb.com.my/e-ticket/login.aspx                                                       Distance: Ipoh Railway Station to Tower Regency Hotel - 3.6KM, 9mins drive(usual traffic)

By bus:
Amanjaya Bus Terminal, Ipoh.
The old Medan Gopeng Bus Terminal has closed and all intercity buses now use Terminal Amanjaya in Jelapang, about 16km north of the city center.
Bus number 116 costs RM2.40 and leaves about every 30 minutes to the city center from the arrivals hall upstairs. It stops at the local bus station, the train station and then goes as far as the Greentown Clinic before turning around at the roundabout and heading back. There are several new services that connect Amanjaya with 'Stesen Ipoh' for RM1.80 (e.g. bus T30a). These also leave from the arrivals area despite misleading signage. A taxi from the bus station to the city center costs 20-30 Ringgit.
Uber or Grab is available in Ipoh, with a localized option to pay with either cash or credit card.
The most frequent intercity routes are to and from Kuala Lumpur (TBS), Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Singapore and Penang. Larger bus companies like Transnational, Plusliner, Starshuttle, Konsortium, Sri Maju and Yoyo, provide the most frequent, reliable and safe services. http://www.easybook.com/en-my                                                                          Distance: Amanjaya Bus Terminal to Tower Regency Hotel - 11KM, 17mins drive(usual traffic).

By car:
Ipoh is well connected to the North-South Expressway. You can get into Ipoh from southern Kuala Lumpur via Exit 137: Simpang Pulai or from northern Penang via the Exit 139: Ipoh Selatan.
